How do I know when it’s time to say goodbye to my pet?

Your veterinarian will have a discussion with you about your pet’s options when medicine can no longer improve their condition. We explore various treatments for your pet’s illness or debilitating injury before we recommend euthanasia. At home, you will also begin to notice changes in your pet that may indicate when it’s time. You may start to pick up on patterns and new behaviours like hiding, eating less, or signs that they are constantly in pain. Ultimately, euthanasia will be your last option. What happens when my pet is euthanized?

The process is designed to end your pet’s suffering so rest assured that they don’t feel any pain when it’s performed. Before the medication is administered we give pet parents a few moments to say their final goodbyes. The medication is given intravenously and it takes effect almost immediately. Your pet will fall into a deep sleep where their heart, lungs, and brain will cease to function. At no point during the procedure will your pet feel any pain or discomfort.
