A compassionate procedure for cats and dogs suffering from chronic pain or terminal illness.
Saying goodbye to your cherished pet will be extremely difficult. We understand, having gone through the process ourselves as lifelong pet owners. It is a heartbreaking decision. When your pet reaches the last stages of its life, you want to have a trusted professional’s opinion on the matter. That’s where we offer support. We want to ensure that all pets pass on peacefully and without any pain. Euthanasia is a humane decision to end your pet’s suffering, and a procedure that we conduct here at Woodbridge Animal Hospital.
Your veterinarian will have a discussion with you about your pet’s options when medicine can no longer improve their condition. We explore various treatments for your pet’s illness or debilitating injury before we recommend euthanasia. At home, you will also begin to notice changes in your pet that may indicate when it’s time. You may start to pick up on patterns and new behaviours like hiding, eating less, or signs that they are constantly in pain. Ultimately, euthanasia will be your last option. It is the last act of kindness and mercy we can provide for your cherished pet. If you would like to learn more, please call us at 905-856-7387.
The process is designed to end your pet’s suffering so rest assured that they don’t feel any pain when it’s performed. Before the medication is administered we give pet parents a few moments to say their final goodbyes. The medication is given intravenously and it takes effect almost immediately. Your pet will fall into a deep sleep where their heart, lungs, and brain will cease to function. At no point during the procedure will your pet feel any pain or discomfort.
